  It’s that time again! I hope your Sunday is looking fabolous and these sounds Mizo & I laid down this week can play a part in bringing some joy to the day. After a couple weeks of having to run the show a bit shorter than normal we were able to get in the groove and zone in this week. For the official half year mark of us lacing y’all with tunes we start out in soulful space and transition into something a lil darker, a lil heavier - but still plenty soul filled. You will hear our usual gamut of jams, kicked off by the beautiful notes of Pharoah Sanders saxophone layered on top of Floating Points hope filled synths. Seriously this record is already in best of the year contention. We keep channeling some peace via tunes that spark a sense of pleasantness to my ears.   Back at it on the solo tip! Mizo is still frolicking around LA (or chilling out socially distancing w/ friends) so I took the chance to get in the lounge and lay down a mix after work on Friday to bless y'all lovely peeps with. It started out flowing along bouncing between records I'd listened to this week and tunes from the cloud I'd come across while cooking and progressed into what's rapidly becoming a theme to these mixes of seeking interesting interplay between tunes when blended together. Sometimes it works and sometimes it might have been a stretch. I was also intrigued by the amount of live tunes I happened to drop throughout, the crowds cheers and applause definitely added a certain flavor to the blends. Either way, guaranteed listening pleasure for your Sunday!

Mizo & I are back at it, delivering our weekly dose of grooves for your lazy Sunday listening pleasure. As mentioned last week we are both reorienting ourselves with our record collection (and constantly snagging new things - shouts out Hi Voltage!). This week I kicked us off with a Freestyle Fellowship screed against societal ills that declares "We Will Not Tolerate." It felt so perfectly spot on for today even at almost thirty years old! This is volume 8 folks! The combination of full access to our collections and continued practice behind the decks is starting to be heard, we move in and out of sounds, layering our selections better, mixing more smoothly and generally continuing our only guideline of "a conversation through tunes." You'll hear the mix start out with some electronic leaning frequencies and progressing into harder hitting, darker sounding drums but everything is filled with an overarching sense of Soul. It took me far to long to get up in here with November's heatrocks. Y'all didn't really think I'd drop October on ya and split? Yeah, I feel you. But I didn't I'm right here! November was great and in getting settled back in Seattle I also got to catch up on music both locally and nationally. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm getting heavy into some electronic tunes. Towards the beginning of the month I was listening to this comp Aquatic Lab Sessions and the track “Right Here” from Flash just struck me. Reminding me of Burial and why I got into dubstep to begin with this song is haunting. The vocals will stick with you and the beat is hypnotic. Great stuff! Yesterday I took the time to give BK-One's album Radio Do Canibal a spin and it rocks. Another great release from RSE this year. What else is ...

I listen to a lot of music and am always searching for something new. This search has recently led me to electronic music. Cobblestone Jazz, a trio of electronic musicians with traditional music education, improvises their music from machines both in the studio and live. With the release of their album 23 Seconds they have been in constant demand overseas, but recently found time to do a series of dates in the states. Late Saturday night they took the stage at Nectar. Slowly building their sound up they tweaked at mixing boards, stared at computer screens, banged on drum machines and one member plays the fender Rhodes while adding vocals processed through a vocorder. For me I enjoy the build up in their style of electronic music. It doesn’t just start out fast and up tempo, it climbs up the BPM ladder slowly, all the while they are quick to let the song breath introducing new elements and bringing in the spacey house feel.
