Diggin' In Mizo's Crates: Can "Future Days" (1973)

For those of you that are familiar with the weekly Sabbath Sessions mix (posted right here every Sunday!) you’ve probably picked up on my partner Mizo & I’s differing tastes in sounds. We unite in the realms of jazz, electronic and hiphop but where I find my ears rooted in the foundational sounds of the sampling aesthetic Mizo grew up on the more classic rock oriented frequencies. Of course our journeys through the auditory waves have traversed many styles and if the Sabbath Sessions are any indication we certainly can’t be pinned down to specific boxes. In an effort to curb our severe addiction to vinyl we started trading records for the other to digest and explore. The stack I have at the moment came from him upon my request to broaden my “rock” horizons and introduce me to some grooves in that vein that he thought I’d appreciate. And fittingly enough, to follow up last week's Paternoster review , the first joint I pulled out of the pile he supplied me with was Future Days ...

Creative outlets shine when the world burns. There is no doubt that whatever the new normal turns out to be (news flash: we are already living it), as a society we will look back on the art created AC (After COVID) as a transition into new realms. Genius minds paid to stay home and cook up whatever inspiration they could muster. If you have been able to walk through this wild ride and not entirely succumb to the detrimental effects that isolation, fear and chaos all around can have on the mind, an applause is warranted. These last eighteen months have been hard. But they also have been an opportunity to explore different paths, change careers, reinvest in spiritual practices and connect once more with what it means to be productive for yourself. If we flashback into time to look at the world post Y2K as the towers fell, war erupted and banks collapsed there was a distinct feeling in the air that times had changed.
