Live from the Oregon coast and we don’t stop! Mizo and I laid this grab bag mix down for y’alls ears earlier this week before I jetted off for a much needed escape to the coast. In the midst of the mix Mizo & I both acknowledged that we have been setting aside the jazz records in preparation for the next pure jazz mix. Be on the lookout for that one in 2 weeks! As to this weeks, the soul was heavy, the beats were banging and the vibes were certainly inspired by the sun shining bright into the lounge. We continue to develop our styles and evolve as we learn more. It’s all just an experiment in wax and sonic frequencies that capture our ear. Some left turns out of nowhere but the records in our crates dictate the shifts in grooves. As alway we hope you hear something new and turn it up loud on your sabbath day. After a week of unbearable heat things have cooled off around the PNW but Mizo and I showed up in the lab with stacks of wax to keep the thermometer rising. This week there was an overarching sense of melancholy via a number of soul grooves meant to tug on the heartstrings and capture that pain that is heartbreak. It’s not all sad boy, emo feels however as you are blessed with some zoned out tunes that walk a line between ambient and electronic as well as our usual jazz jumps and a handful of rap numbers with some folk and hints of rock and world jams to round out the journey. I'm making it a priority to get the heatrocks posted in the first week of the new month from here on out. This month was a slow one on the new music front, at one point I was convinced this was gonna be a short collection. Shuffle knew better though, hitting me with a number of gems that I just had to add to the mix. In the end I had enough to make this the first "double disc" heatrocks edition.
